Dementia is a Global Issue
The number of people with dementia globally is estimated to be 50 million. Currently, this is greater than the total population of Spain and is projected to nearly triple by 2050.
Every three seconds
...someone develops dementia, which equates to 9.9 million new cases across the world every year.
Dementia is a very personal issue
At the moment there is no cure for dementia. Once a person has dementia, they will have it for the rest of their life.
The impact on that person and their family is profound.
Leading cause of death
Mortality rates for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias have increased over the last decade. In contrast, the other top four leading causes of death in 2017 – ischaemic heart diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, chronic lower respiratory diseases and lung cancer – have all seen falling mortality rates in the last 15 years
